The verse can be split into four sub verses of three lines each, each sub verse underlined by the third line; a refrain of ‘You alone deserve the praise.’ And it’s something we need to constantly remember. It’s not our wisdom, skills, strength or riches that keep us alive and well and whole and prosperous. We don’t overcome sin or prosper in our works because we have the will. We couldn’t even be saved if God hadn’t gifted us with that tiny little bit of faith which we received and applied to believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So…knowing that God alone deserves the praise keeps us humble. And God dwells with the meek and humble, but resists the proud.
